Project Overview
To support increased vaccine manufacturing and shifting product pipelines, this project expanded and modernized Quality Operations (QO) capacity across two interconnected campus facilities. The scope combined new multi-story construction with targeted renovations to establish flexible testing environments, upgrade aseptic processing capabilities, and optimize adjacent office spaces without disrupting ongoing campus operations.
Scope & Technical Capabilities
Addition & Building Envelope
Genesis provided turnkey architecture, engineering, procurement, and commissioning services for a 25,000 SF addition. Key structural and mechanical features include:

Three-story steel frame with a fully insulated metal panel exterior skin.

Dedicated mechanical penthouse engineered to support strict air balance and filtration demands.

Integrated support infrastructure, including solutions prep areas, a new autoclave suite, glass washing facilities, and administrative workspace.
LEAN Laboratory Design & Containment
The facility layout centers on adaptable, high-throughput testing:

Modular Testing Space: Designed a large open-plan lab applying LEAN workflow principles, allowing up to 12 different assays to run simultaneously.

Segregated Biosafety Labs: Configured specialized suites for microbiology, sterility, hemadsorption, virus tissue culture safety, and protein testing.

Mycoplasma Isolation: Built completely separate negative and positive mycoplasma labs to prevent cross-contamination.
Facility Modernization & Aseptic Upgrades
Work inside existing operational areas focused on upgrading contamination control:

Renovated 3,000 SF of active laboratory space across two connected buildings.

Upgraded the sterility suite by replacing soft-walled isolators with four hard-walled isolators.

Spec’d and sourced all specialized process equipment via Genesis Asset Management services.
Execution & Results
Virtual Design Adaptation
When COVID-19 restricted field access, the project team shifted to Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) reviews. Remote coordination kept equipment specification, spatial layout approvals, and engineering submittals moving forward until crew mobilization was permitted on-site.
