AstraZeneca - Multi-Watt Solar & Grid Integration

Industrial Solar Grid Interconnection & Electrical Installation

AstraZeneca partnered with Genesis’ Critical Infrastructure team to execute a large-scale renewable energy initiative aimed at significantly reducing the facility’s carbon footprint. As the lead electrical contractor, Genesis managed the complex industrial solar installation and utility grid interconnection for the multi-megawatt photovoltaic (PV) system.

Working in coordination with the solar integrator, our team integrated the renewable power source into a live, active industrial campus. Key technical highlights of the project included:

  • High-Capacity Electrical Distribution: Installation of 2,000kVA transformers (12kV-480/277V) and 2500A switchboards.

  • Infrastructure: Construction of large-scale underground duct banks to support the solar array.

  • Utility Coordination: Direct partnership with Delmarva Power to install custom metering equipment, ensuring a fully compliant, seamless grid tie-in.

The completed commercial solar PV system provides a high-efficiency clean power solution, successfully meeting the client’s rigorous sustainability and energy goals. In fact, the 7,800 solar panels on this solar farm, built on 9.5 acres in front of the factory, will produce 20 to 30 percent of the electricity used by the facility.
