The Critical Infrastructure team at Genesis recently spearheaded a high-stakes expansion. This 48,000 SF data center project was engineered to house two 7,000 SF Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) environments, meeting the surging demand for high-density, low-latency processing.

To satisfy our client’s rigorous reliability standards, Genesis implemented a fully modular 2N redundancy architecture across all utility systems, ensuring zero downtime for next-generation edge applications.

Engineering & Multi-Trade Coordination

Managing a project of this scale within an active site required surgical precision. Genesis led the multi-trade engineering and installation effort, seamlessly integrating complex electrical, mechanical, and structural systems without interrupting existing operations.

Critical Infrastructure & Technical Specifications

Our technical scope focused on delivering a resilient environment capable of supporting extreme high-density loads:

  • Emergency Power Generation: Four 3MW standby generators installed at grade, providing dedicated 2N backup for each MEC space.

  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS): A modular 2N UPS architecture featuring dual systems with three 600kW modules per side, delivering 1,400kW of conditioned power to each MEC.

  • Power Distribution: High-capacity distribution via 300kVA PDUs, feeding four 600A lines into redundant RPPs with 400A main breakers.

  • Thermal Management: To combat high-density heat loads, we installed 114-ton packaged air-handling units, 7,000 CFM CRAC units, and specialized fan coil units for precision climate control.

  • Life Safety & Fire Suppression: Advanced protection including VESDA aspirating smoke detection, pre-action sprinklers, and clean-agent fire suppression.

Structural Innovation & Performance

The expansion required significant structural modifications, including the construction of multiple exterior equipment platforms with architectural screening. These platforms support the massive rooftop and grade-level mechanical systems essential for MEC cooling and power.
